A ported throttle body is a factory throttle body whose bore and blade area have been machined to reduce restriction and smooth airflow into the engine. On a GM 3.6 V6 the result is increased throttle response, gains in low end torque, and an overall increase of 4-12 RWHP depending on the application.
It is one of the least expensive ways to make a measurable difference to how an engine feels to drive, because it improves the air path before anything else in the intake tract sees it.
What porting actually changes
The factory throttle body is a compromise between cost, emissions and airflow. Porting removes casting restrictions and reshapes the bore so air enters more cleanly and with less turbulence. The throttle blade area is addressed at the same time.
Because the change is upstream of the intake manifold, it affects everything downstream — which is why it stacks well with a ported intake manifold.

These are modest numbers on paper. In practice, throttle response and low-end torque are what you notice every time you drive the car, which is why this is a common first modification.
Stock bore or 80mm?
Two options exist for the GM 3.6 V6.
The stock-bore ported throttle body is a direct replacement, requires no core, and does not require tuning. GM ported throttle body — $399, available for LLT, LFX and LGX.
The 80mm ported throttle body goes further and does require tuning. GM 80mm ported throttle body — $399, no core charge, available for LFX and LGX.
An LT1 ported throttle body is available for Gen V LT1 Camaro and Corvette, with an 87mm stock footprint and 90mm flow equivalent. Ford EcoBoost units are available as a ported throttle body for 2.7L and 3.5L Ecoboost.
Installation and idle relearn
Fitting is straightforward, but the step people skip is the idle relearn. Perform the OEM recommended idle relearn procedure after installation — some applications need an OBD scan tool, others follow the owner's manual. A relearn can also be forced by disconnecting the negative battery cable for several minutes to clear the control module's memory.
If idle is erratic or the engine surges afterwards, put a load on the engine. If idle evens out after shifting into gear, shift back to park, check idle RPM and perform the relearn again.
Clean the intake manifold mounting surface, replace the gasket if necessary, and clear any diagnostic trouble codes before the relearn.
