This is an installation and explanation of the Tracy Lewis Catch Can system performed on a 2015 Audi Q7 3.0L.
Why a direct-injection Audi needs more than a catch can
Direct-injection engines have no fuel washing over the back of the intake valves, so oil vapour carried through the PCV system bakes onto the valves as carbon. Over time that costs airflow, smoothness and economy, and cleaning it means pulling the intake off.
A basic catch can only collects oil that has already left the engine. The Tracy Lewis system does two additional things:
- Full-time crankcase vacuum. Rather than simply catching vapour, the system keeps the crankcase under vacuum continuously, so pressure never builds and oil is not pushed past seals or back into the intake tract.
- Clean Side Separator. Included in every kit, it addresses oil ingestion upstream of the throttle body — a path no ordinary catch can reaches.

- Billet aluminum check valves. If your engine makes more than 12 psi of boost you will need the high-performance check valve on the intake manifold side
- Gates Push-Lok hose as standard, with Gates Barricade or black braided hose available as upgrades
- All fittings and hardware needed to complete the installation
